Students Return from Study Abroad in Beijing
Twenty-two J.D. students, from the University of Minnesota and other law schools, participated in the University of Minnesota Law School’s Summer Study Abroad Program in Beijing, China. In conjunction with the prestigious China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), the University of Minnesota Law School offered a five week program from May 27 to June 30.
The program focused on comparative economic law, and allowed students to study first-hand the Chinese economic, legal, and political systems. From the University of Minnesota Law School, Associate Dean Meredith McQuaid served as Program Director, On-site Co-Director and Professor John Matheson taught Comparative Business Entities, and Professor Ann Burkhart offered Comparative Land Use. Co-Director and Dean Stephen Hsu, from CUPL, introduced students to Chinese Economic Law. Students also enrolled in Mandarin Chinese courses.
As part of their hands-on learning experience, students visited important legal institutions in Beijing, such as the Supreme People’s Court, the Beijing Municipal Institute of City Planning, and the National People's Congress.
The University of Minnesota Law School welcomes back the faculty, staff, and students who participated in the program.
