On Sep 27, 2006, Jerome A. Cohen, an authority who studied Chinese law in the United State, was engaged by China University of Political Science and Law as an honorary professor. Headmaster of China University of Political Science and Law Xu Xianming and Dean of School of American and Comparative Law XuChuanxi also attended the ceremony. After the ceremony, Professor Jerome A. Cohen gave a lecture on the topic of “The Many Roles of the American Lawyer”. This lecture was the first one of a serial lectures held by School of American and Comparative Law.

Headmaster XuXianming awarded the letter of appointment to Professor Jerome A. Cohen. He said, there were three reasons to award the letter of appointment to Professor. Jerome A. Cohen. Firstly , Professor. Cohen was the exploiter of studying Chinese law in the U.S; secondly, he was the exploiter of law communication between America and China; thirdly, he was the forthgoer of the relationship of America and China.

Professor Cohen said, he had been to China University of Political Science and Law several times and kept fine relationship with Professor Jiang Ping, Professor Chen Guangzhong, Professor Fang Liufang and Professor TengBiao. It was said that Professor JiangPing and Vice Headmaster XieZhanyuan held welcoming dinner for Professor Cohen before the ceremony.

After the ceremony, Professor Cohen gave a lecture on topic of “The Many Roles of the American Lawyer”. This lecture was the beginning of a serial lectures held by School of American and Comparative Law.
